Workhorse™ Diapers by Cloth-eez® brand. Designed by Green Mountain Diapers.

workhorse diaper

We have made our beloved prefold diapers into a handy fitted diaper. Convenient, durable, 100% cotton. I love cotton! Covered snaps inside, loose flap style inside for quick drying (newborn size does not have flap).

It's the same 100% cotton fabric as our beloved prefolds. 8 layers of cotton in the body and 8 layers in the flap for sizes medium, large and XL for a total of 16 layers! Size small has a 6 layer flap which is a more appropriate thickness for a younger baby. The newborn has no flap at all because newborns are little and don't need all that bulk and absorbency. As with any diaper, you can add a doubler or a preemie diaper for additional absorbency for long outings, naps or nighttime as needed. Turn it into a stay-dry diaper by adding a Stay-Dry Liner. Having the fleece liner separate is best because it works as an easy liner to get to poop off, and since the fleece is one layer and separate, it washes easily and doesn't get stinky like the pocket kind often do.

"Can I skip newborn and start in size small?" You decide. Newborn really is better on newborns. The following pictures are taken on a 9 week old 11 pound baby in both newborn and small on the same day.

You can see the wings are a lot longer on size small, plus the size small has the 6 layer inner flap for more absorbency whereas the newborn size does not have a flap. Thus, newborn really is a lot smaller and trimmer than size small, which is appropriate for a newborn baby. This baby is 9 weeks old and 11 pounds and is no longer really a "newborn" anymore.

small workhorse 12 pounds 12 weeks, 12 pounds in size small. This fits nicely, but at this point if I were purchasing new diapers for this baby, I would size up to medium red edge. This baby is wide and has meaty thighs, so even though this fits now, I wouldn't buy this size for him now because there really isn't much growing room for him in this. I'd size up to the red edge already. It's not just the age and weight of baby, but consider also baby's shape. His meaty thighs will let him size up sooner.

medium:

worhorse red edge workhorse red side  cloth diaper bottom Medium on 20 pound 6 month old. He is a big baby. I think this is really too small on him but another person might like the trim fit that the snugger diaper gives. If I were buying diapers for this baby, I'd get size large instead. The chart says large starts at 23 pounds and he's only 20 pounds, but he has a solid, stocky build so that makes him need to size up sooner than the chart says. Shape and build makes difference. It's not just numbers.

medium stretched When stretched, the medium are about as long as a medium prefold, but in reality they fit slightly smaller, more like below:

red actual fit diaper The gathers of the elastics make them fit a bit smaller than their stretched length.

brown red comparison size large has quite a bit more rise and some more width. If you size up too soon, the rise will be too much and the legs will gap. Because these are shown at rest, it doesn't look like much difference. But when stretched, it really is a bigger difference than it looks like in this picture.

diaper with doublerNeed even more absorbency for long outings or naps? Try adding a Cloth-eez Doubler

newborn diaper doubler Yes, the small Cloth-eez Doubler does fit in the Newborn Workhorse. Newborn size Workhorse does not have the built in doubler-flap that the other sizes have. This is on purpose so that it's trim on little newborn babies. But some babies are heavy wetters even when they are little, so adding the small doubler can be needed for some babies. Doublers are also useful for longer (night) naps. Doublers are useful the whole diapering time, so you might as well have some on hand right from the start.

brown edge cloth diaper20 pounds.

Orange edges fits preemie through about 10 pounds. Some have white snaps and some have orange snaps and they are the same thing. You can't choose your snap color though. This is "first 6 weeks diaper" for those looking for a very trim cotton fitted diaper. It does not have the inner flap, to reduce bulk for a really nice fit on a newborn baby. Great breastfed poop containment. Newborn size, since it is tiny and has no flap, is very low priced.

Note: This is a diaper. It does require a cover.

Newborn, orange edges fits preemie to 10 pounds.

Small, yellow edges fits 9 to 15 pounds.

Medium, red edges fits 15 to perhaps 24 pounds.

Large, brown edges fit 23 to 30 pounds

$5.00 each for newborn

$9.95 each for snap or no closure, for size small and up. Sale $7.95 each. Sale ends March 1.

Stock Status: In stock in snap closure only. Usually ships in 24 hours. No-closure version and size XL will be available on about March 14th or so.
