Doublers and Diaper Liners
Imse Vimse Flushable Diaper Liners
Imse Vimse Flushable Diaper Liners in package. Chlorine-Free.
Liners are not necessary in cloth diapers, but many cloth diaper users do find that they make cleanup easier. Use in any kind of diaper. Simply flush the liner. These are also known as rice paper diaper liners, although they are actually a paper product. Flushable diaper liners are safer, much softer and more biodegradable than polypropylene liners. Just like you should not flush tissues when you have a septic system, we believe that no liners on the market today, not even ours, should be flushed into a septic system (yes, we know this is opinion is contrary to what several manufacturers suggest, check with your local septic service to learn more - but that said, if you must flush, the Bummis liners below do degrade faster). But these are just fine to flush into town or city systems. So even if you have a septic system at home, you many want to use liners to make clean up easy in public restrooms when you go out. 100 pre-cut sheets per pack, each sheet is 14.5" by 7 3/4", and very scrunchable - the right size for the job. Sheets are great because you can pick one up with one hand (rather than the roll kind that takes two hands and it can be hard to find the perforation. We love pre-cut sheets.) They can survive the washing machine for a couple of cycles, so some people will re-use them if they are only peed on. They do make cleanup easy! They do not provide absorbency. If you need additional absorbency, you are looking for doublers. They do provide a layer between the wetness and the baby, so there is a slight (not total) stay-dry effect when using these liners. This stay-dry effect is superior than the all-viscose Bummis ones below. Also, suggest these to your disposable diapering friends to help them obey good sanitation practices. It is unsanitary to put poop in the garbage. A few years ago it said on nearly all disposable diaper packages to put contents of soiled diapers in the toilet. I don't know why you only sometimes find that instruction now. It's on some packages but not others, but it's still good practice to put poop in into an approved sanitation disposal system. Plus, flushable liners also keep the chemicals in the disposables one more layer away from baby. Made of paper pulp and a bit of viscose, these Imse Vimse Toddler flushable liners are imported. They are called "toddler" but this size is appropriate for young babies also.

Bummis Bio-Soft Flushable Diaper Liners
Chlorine-Free.
Read basic info about liners above in the description of the Imse Vimse Flushable Liners. Bummis liners are softer and biodegrade faster than the Imse Vimse liners. But because of that, they are a little harder to handle. They scrunch side to side more. As with all diapering choices, there are tradeoffs. I think Imse Vimse liners are easier to use, but when compared side by side, the Bummis liners are softer. Plus there is a style preference choice, because these come on a roll with perforations and the Imse ones are sheets. Since these biodegrade more easily, they do not survive through several washes like the Imse ones can, so they are truly 1 use. Discard peed on liners in the garbage and flush only the pooped on ones. They are supposed to degrade in 8 days in a sewage treatment system and 20 days in a septic, but even so we still do not recommend flushing any liners in a septic system. You are responsible for your own septic system. Both brands are chlorine-free. Instead of paper pulp and a bit of viscose, these are all viscose rayon. Viscose rayon is a cellulostic fiber derived from natural sources. It is non-woven with no binders. Made in England for Bummis.
Small is for newborns 5x12 inches. Large is for infants through training, 7.5 x 12 inches.

Disana Silk Liners
See silk larger
Disana rawsilk liners are said to help heal diaper rash. Some say they use it overnight as a liner to keep skin cozy for extended time in a diaper. If you wash them with your diapers, they will not last all the way through to potty learning. They are silk, after all. Try to handwash them or at least be gentle on them in your machine if you machine wash them. We carried these for many years ago and have brought them back by request of our customers. They aren't intended for full-time diaper use, but to be used instead of creams for times of rash for silk's reported natural healing properties. These are softer than other brands I've tried. Made in Germany. 100% rawsilk.

Diaper Pail Liners are here
Why Karen loves doublers - They wash easily, dry quite fast and prevent leaks by adding more absorbency. Doublers are great because you can customize the absorbency of any diapering system by adding a doubler or two, without the bulk of double diapering. Sometimes they are called "inserts", but we use the more old fashioned term "doubler". They give you absorbency where you need it, in the right amount for your unique baby, (light to heavy wetter) and your style (frequent to less frequent changer). Use of doublers really makes your system work just right for you. Doublers are excellent leak prevention!
Doublers can really make the difference to bring you to really enjoying cloth diapering. We highly recommend doublers. They are a worthwhile, one-time investment in your baby's cloth diapering wardrobe. They really make mom's life easier and keep baby drier and more comfortable.
Which doublers? It doesn't really matter. Don't sweat this too much. But here are Karen's opinions: Hemp is dense, absorbent and trim. Hemp is more dense (absorbent) and more firm feeling than cotton. Cotton is more pliable (bendable, softer hand). As you probably know by now as you read through the GMD site, I love 100% cotton, but the Hemp Doublers do have a place in diapering, too, because of their trimness, density and ability to "stop the flow". For example, sometimes when using a wool pull-on I put a hemp doubler down the front - inside of a wool pull-on but outside of the diaper. This helps because the hemp doubler is dense and best able to stop the flow - the force of a boy's pee - especially. That's a handy trick. The Sherpa Doublers are dense also and do an excellent job, plus cotton washes up more easily than hemp. All the doublers work and are good quality. All doublers can be used next to baby's bottom directly, but I usually fold the doubler into the center of the prefold so that the prefold is next to baby. Most people choose the Hemp Doublers and love them, but the Cotton Sherpa work well too and are an unbeatable price. They are pretty dense also, much more so than say cotton flannel would be. All our doublers are made to our specifications directly for GMD with no "middle man" which helps keep prices low.

100% cotton doubler. Replace your stinky inserts with 2 of these. Easy washing cotton doesn't get the microfiber stink. They are unbleached so they will take several hot cycles with detergent to wash off the natural cotton oils before they reach full absorbency. These stay flat after washing so they are trim as diaper doublers or as inserts. Each doubler is 2 layers of cotton sherpa. Layer them up by using 2 or even 3 to get the custom absorbency level your child needs. By not being overy thick with many layers sewn together, the wash well and dry quickly. Last year we made them 3 layers but this year we made them 2 layers because the 3 layers was just a bit too dense and they did not dry quite as quickly as we would like, so this year we made them 2 layers and they are just right! Size small with yellow edges is 10.5 inches long by 4 inches wide. Size large with brown edges is 12 3/4 inches long by 4.5 inches wide. These measurements are after full shrinkage. No microfiber -no bamboo rayon- no polyester. No stink. And no hemp for those of you who like to use borax. 100% cotton sherpa. Made in Pakistan.

Small Hemp Doublers, Large Hemp Doublers
Large Hemp Doubler on left is 5x12, Small Hemp Doubler is on the right is 4x11.
We recently renamed the "Hemp Doubler" to "Large Hemp Doubler" for better clarification. Before we called them small hemp doubler and hemp doubler (as you see in the picture), but now we are calling them small and large hemp doubler. The product did not change, we just changed the name to hopefully make easier to know which is which. Our Hemp Doublers are three layers of 55% hemp, 45% organically grown cotton. Hemp is very absorbent and technically more absorbent than cotton alone. I can't tell in real live and in my own testing, but that is what I am told. It's not the jersey kind, it's the thicker more absorbent fleeced kind. It’s mill washed so it won’t shrink too much. Small Hemp Doublers are 4 inches wide by 11 inches long. These are trim. Wonderful on newborns in Infant Fitted Diapers, but also good on older babies when you need a bit more absorbency and don't want to add bulk. It is narrow, so not it's bulky between the legs. The narrowness also keeps the fit correct of many fitted diapers since it's narrow enough not to interfere with the fit of the leg openings. This is really a wonderful, high-value (very useful) item. If you buy these when baby is young, you can keep using them all the way to potty training for a truly excellent value. The Hemp Doublers are 5 inches by 12 inches. More absorbency for an older baby. Made in the USA of imported material. Both the cotton and hemp are said to be organic, according to our fabric supplier, but at this time they are uncertified. Note: if you like to use borax a lot, choose 100% cotton instead of hemp. Made in the USA of imported material. All hemp is imported. There is no such thing made in the USA hemp. Most places leave off that tidbit about the fact that the hemp is imported even though cut and sewn in USA.

Stay Dry Hemp Doublers
Hemp Doubler on left, Stay-Dry Hemp Doubler on right
This is the same as our Hemp Doubler, above, (three layers of 55% hemp, 45% organically grown cotton) but topped with a layer of virgin Malden Mills 200 weight polar fleece. Polar fleece allows the moisture to go through but maintains a dry feeling next to babys bottom, since fleece is hydrophobic (afraid of water). With quality polar fleece the argument that only disposables keep babys bottom feeling dry is simply not true. This washable synthetic really does keep babys bottom dry. The virgin (not recycled) Malden Mills seems to be less allergenic than other polyester fleeces. This is the best fleece, in our opinion. The color of these is off white natural. However, like ALL polyester fleece products (stay-dry pocket diapers would be included), the fleece is dyed. The white kind is dyed and the natural, off white color ones such as these are dyed. To the best of my knowledge from conversations with fleece manufacturers, all polyester fleece is dyed. These do meet the CPSIA requirements for not containing any lead in the dyes. These feel nicer and softer than some others and have nicely finished edges. They handle in your hands well. They are 12 inches long and 5 inches wide which is the same size as the Malden Mills Fleece Liners and the Large Hemp Doublers. Note: if you like to use borax a lot, don't choose hemp. Choose cotton instead, such as GroVia. Made in the USA.

Malden Mills Fleece Stay-Dry Liners
One layer of virgin Malden Mills 200 weight polar fleece with a finished edge. Line any diaper with this top quality polar fleece and obtain dryness next to babys bottom since it allows the moisture to go through it but it doesnt feel wet. It really works. No long term studies have been done using polyester fleece next to babys bottom, but it seems to us that its got to be safer than chemical filled throw away diapers. Many moms have used this material in this way successfully in the past 8 years. Use these for a dry feeling when the additional absorbency of the Stay-Dry Doublers is not needed. The color of these is off white natural. However, like ALL polyester fleece products (stay-dry pocket diapers would be included), the fleece is dyed. The white kind is dyed and the natural, off white color ones such as these are dyed as are the white. We stock either white or off-white depending on availability. To the best of my knowledge from conversations with fleece manufacturers, all polyester fleece is dyed. There is no undyed stay-dry fleece. If you discover this is incorrect, please let me know right away, but my research does confirm this disappointing fact. These do meet the CPSIA requirements (Consumer Product Safety Commission laws) for not containing any lead in the dyes. 5 inches wide by 12 inches long. 100% polyester fleece. Made in the USA.

Bummis Fleece Liners 5-pack

Thin, cut-edge stay dry polyester microfleece made from Repreve recycled polyester. Just like all polyester fleeces are, these are dyed, too. Like other stay-dry liners and doublers, the pee goes through them and then the surface stays more dry-feeling than the cotton layer underneath. These are more "micro" feeling than the Malden Mills fleece liners above, but they absolutely work for those who don't mind polyester and want something inexpensive to do the job. These are very thin. They add almost no bulk to the diaper but the tradeoff is that they are so thin that they are a little harder to handle in your hands than the more substantial ones. Very economically priced but definitely effective. 100% polyester fleece. Made in Canada.

Night Stay-Dry Doublers
Night Stay Dry Doubler on left, regular Stay Dry Hemp Doubler on right (sold above) shown for comparison
Bigger, thus more absorbent, and shaped. Designed for nighttime for babies over about age 10 months, but can be used anytime. Can be used alone in a cover for a young baby, but it may be too large to fit inside some fitted diapers. For example, we think it is too large to fit properly in a GMD Infant Fitted Diaper, but is ok in a Snug-To-Fit Supreme medium rise settig and up, or others fitteds, and is fine in prefolds, too, but not newborn. 3 layers of 55% hemp, 45% cotton, organically grown, topped with a layer of virgin Malden Mills 200 weight polar fleece. Polar fleece allows the moisture to go through but maintains a dry feeling next to babys bottom, since fleece is hydrophobic (afraid of water). Cloth-eez® Doublers
BEST VALUE!

New! The same lovely prefold fabric as our beloved Cloth-eez® prefolds in a doubler sizes. All sizes 8 layers (8-ply) of 100% cotton. I love the prefold fabric because it's so soft and pliable. It is quilty just like prefolds are so they come out of the dryer curly and need to be flattened out by hand a bit. This is the nature of the twill prefold fabric. I like to match fabrics. When I use a prefold or a Workhorse diaper and choose to add a doubler, I like to use the same fabric, even though that doesn't really matter of course. We call the white version Workhorse because it matches the Workhorse diapers, but really it's just white, unbleached or organic as the choice. They really the same except for the fabric choice. Organic is unbleached organically grown cotton (GOTS certified) and is 50 cents more. As an alternative use, you can use 2 together instead of those smelly microfiber inserts. This prefold fabric washes very easily and doesn't hold stink because it is 100% cotton. And best of of all, they are very inexpensive. Doublers add additional absorbency in any style diaper. You can fit the size small into the newborn Workhorse diaper. Made in the Pakistan.

Preemie Prefolds

Cloth-eez Preemie size prefold diapers are the most economical doubler. Picture shows them folded in thirds. A wonderful option. Fold in thirds and lay in your diaper for extra absorbency. 2-6-2 layers, fully shrunk size is about 11 inches long, 8 inches wide, but the wide sides are thin and fold in easily. 100% cotton. Made in Pakistan. Read more about prefold diapers on the prefolds page.

Three layers of certified organic cotton stays soft wash after wash. Boosts absorbency without adding much bulk. Stays flat after washing. Because it's 100% cotton, it washes easily. (small doublers which boost absorbency and also have a polyster stay-dry fleece layer on one side). 3 layers of absorbent organically grown cotton topped with 100% polyester stay dry fleece. When you don't want any hemp but want a stay-dry with the absorbency of 100% cotton behind it, these are for you. Borax users should not use hemp but borax is ok with cotton, and these are cotton backed. (Borax is a common disinfectant, such as Mule Team Borax, used as a laundry booster which is great in hard water.) These stay-dry boosters are smaller and trimmer than the stay-dry hemp doublers above. Bigger is mor absorbent of course, but sometimes less bulky and trimmer is better especially for daytime use or while baby is young still small. Made in China.

Babee Greens Wool Liner
Turn your daytime wools into night-worthy wools!
What in the world would you use a WOOL diaper liner for? Well, there are 2 ways to use it. One is next to baby as a night stay dry layer. The other is not next to baby but instead goes after the absorbent part but before the waterproof part. Wool both resists and absorbs moisture. Huh? How can that be? Try it and you'll see it's true. This is why wool is the best at night. A wool diaper cover is water resistant, yet when the diaper becomes saturated at night, instead of a leak which you would get in a PUL cover when moisture has nowhere left to go, the wool will absorb. At night in soaked situations, the wool will become damp instead of the bedsheets. Then just air out the wool cover and re-use it the next day. Wool really does air to fresh through many re-uses. So now that you understand how wool diaper covers work, you'll see what a wool liner can do. There are many ways to use it.
As a night stay dry, you put the wool next to baby's skin then stack up lots of cotton under that and then use whatever cover you want to over it all. It is important to keep the wool right up next to where the pee comes out, and not sagging away. Because wool will resist moisture, you have to have it right there so that the pee will go through it. Then it works as a natural fabric stay-dry. This really only works at night though. In daytime, baby moves around a lot more and you are more likely to get sagging and the pee can splash out because the wool will not absorb quickly like cotton does. Rinse the wool liner first thing in the morning with a little vinegar to cut the pee/ammonia and then handwash with a gentle soap such as olive oil soap or any gentle detergent or wool wash of your choice. I like Dr. Bronners bar soap or Kiss my Face Olive oil soap. I'm not trying get a lot of lanolin on it because I want the pee to go through it. Eucalan will work but lanolizing isn't necessary. For a rashy baby, you can use lanolin on baby's bottom as cream and it's ok for that to get on the wool liner. The wool as a stay-dry layer can make the difference between needing a night-change or not. Ok, now for the other way to use these.
The other way to use this is as the lowest layer next the diaper cover under the cotton diapers for extra absorbency/waterproofing. This is a great strategy for leak prevention when a diaper cover is really worn out an starting to wick moisture through the fabric. Really, that cover needs replacing but the wool liner can make a dead cover work for a while longer. The way I use them is to make my daytime wool covers car ride or nighttime worthy. Adding 1, 2 or even 3 of these adds more wool. I put them right next to the wool cover inside. The effect is to make a thick wool cover out of a thin one. This is great! I can now use my "daytime wools" for night by adding wool liners. So if you own 1 night wool and a daytime wool, when your regular nighttime wool is still wet from being washed, you need to have a spare cover for nighttime on hand. But the night wools are expensive. Having wool liners to turn your day wools into night wools means you don't have to buy a second nighttime wool. Ta da! Money savings, and it works great. You can also beef up your night wool by adding a wool liner to it if you need to. Extra wool in there stops compression leaks. Some will use it is as the lowest layer next to the PUL in a pocket diaper, because wool absorbs. Some will use it folded in half inside your bra for a nighttime breast pad. These are 1 layer of Okeo Tex 100 certified merino wool. They are thin since they are just 1 layer, which makes them easy to wash and quick to dry, but we recommend that you purchase 3 of them to have what you need to get the job done. I'd really like to only offer 3-packs but we are selling them individually in order to keep the price as low as possible so it's easier to just try one and see what it does. If you have never tried wool before, this is an inexpensive way to try a little wool and see and feel how soft it is and learn about wool. Hand washing is recommended but they can be very gently machine washed. Made in USA.
